When it comes to remodeling there are many rewards as well as some unavoidable pitfalls. Timing is one of these pitfalls that can slow a project down. But with a realistic remodeling schedule, you can have a better idea of when the renovation will be started and finished.

Realistic Remodeling Schedule

When it comes to remodeling your home there are a few selections that can add time to your remodeling schedule. There is also be times when nothing is happening for a few days because something is drying or being fabricated. Here is a list of common items that often take several days to be installed at set.

  1. Countertops
  2. Mirrors
  3. Drywall and Staining
  4. Shower Doors

Countertops and Mirrors

With granite or quartz countertops in can take anywhere from 5-14 days. This is because of the process entails measurements, fabrication, and installation. Countertops are often custom items and take time. And it also depends on the time of year and how busy the countertop installer is. So make sure that when you are getting countertops installed that you plan accordingly. Also, make sure that, if you are doing a custom order for cabinets or countertops, the company isn’t back-ordered.

Mirrors can take anywhere from 3-7 days because they have to cut and installed. If you want to go the extra mile than it is recommended that you have your mirror framed in the same wood trim as your vanity. Doing this may add a few extra days but it will be worth it in the end.

Drywall/Staining and Shower Doors

Drying time is a factor that needs to be considered. This includes drywall compound, grout, and mortar. Because each of these has a different drying time. When you do the drywall compound keep in mind that the humidity in the air can play a part in how long it takes to dry. If you are doing polyurethane on the floors that can take a day to dry. So make sure that you incorporate all of these drying times into the schedule when you are working with a professional or on your own to create a realistic remodeling schedule.

When it comes to shower doors these can be custom made as well. And depending on the size and style of the shower the doors can take anywhere from 5 to 15 days for it to be measured, fabricated and installed, just like with the countertops. But the time and effort is worth it than if you had just gone with a boring shower curtain. So keep that in mind and make sure that you properly accommodate for it

Lotz of Logic

When it comes to creating custom selections it is important to remember that changing orders can make you be your own worst enemy. Because it’s changing multiple things and not just one thing. Communication well with general contractors is also important to remember because they can help alleviate some of the timing issues and make sure that the projects don’t stretch on forever. So if a contractor gives you a time frame of four to six weeks then it can be done in that time frame. If it is anything longer than something is changed or missing and can delay the finishing time. Just keeping all of these in mind can help you when you are working on creating a realistic remodeling schedule.
