Have you ever been short on ideas for your kitchen island? In this video, Mark talks about the importance of the layout for your kitchen island as well as the purpose.
Ideas For Your Kitchen Island:
To determine the right kitchen island for you, you’ll need to know the following:
- The main use of your kitchen island now
- What kitchen island shape would work best for you and your family
- Do you want the sinks and stoves moved over to the island?
Purposes and Shapes for Most Kitchen Islands:
The most common purpose for a kitchen island is for meal preparation. You’re able to work on a huge slab of granite or quartz, spreading out all your food, without any appliances getting the way. Islands are also used for entertainment. Typically, couples will serve cocktails and have appetizers placed on the island. Some families will even use their kitchen island to quickly eat at on the days when they are super busy. I have found that these purposes are some of the most common for kitchen islands. There are a few different kitchen island shapes. There is the rectangle, square and not so typical, I-shaped or J-shaped. The most popular kitchen island shape is the rectangle, but lately, couples are now having the square island installed because they are perfect to serve as an eat-in area. The L-shaped and J-shaped are not very popular but are super neat. Due to the unique design of these islands, they are more expensive. But no matter what the size or shape of the island the countertop edge that you select will look great.
Sinks and Stoves at your Kitchen Island
Since one of the most general purposes for a kitchen island is food preparation, it makes perfect sense to have a preparation sink right on the island for the produced garbage. Then, if you want your stoved moved over to the island as well, most couples will have the countertop raised for people to eat at and then have the stovetop lowered.
Lotz of Logic
Overall, the shape or size of the kitchen island you choose will be a great addition and great investment! Kitchen islands are so convenient, as well as great for entertaining.
